What can we Learn from the Ancients? This presentation takes a hard look at the history of project management, how it evolved, and presents some quite remarkable results. Namely, that project management did not just appear in the last 100 years but has been a steady evolution for at least 4,500 years that began with the Pyramid of Giza. The presentation is unique as it looks at this project from a modern project management perspective namely the 9 knowledge areas of the PMBoK® which helps highlight the differences and similarities with modern projects. Greek-Roman Project Managers This presentation looks at the changes in project management from these two eras. The Greeks took project management in one direction with the Parthenon, which demonstrated aesthetic buildings of great beauty could be delivered in a timely and cost effective manner. The Romans using the new materials of concrete and brick, and approaches centered around the vault, demonstrated how public buildings could be delivered rapidly, and widely replicated across their empire.
