Dr. Byrne is an outspoken advocate of project management.  Dr. Byrne has spoken at the Project Management Institute Leadership Sessions at PMI's Global Congress and has presented at PMI Global Congress.  Additionally, John has spoken at PMI Local Chapter Sessions. 

Dr. Byrne will be speaking at this year’s Project Management Institute Global Congress in Washington on the topic of Project Management a 21st Century Skills.  
Dr. Byrne is a consultant to industry on Project Management and has been a practitioner of project management for over 20 years. 

John delivers seminars and webinars on project management to fortune 500 companies as well as to the Project Management Institute Communities of Practice. These seminars and webinar topics include various topics in project management as well as the future direction of project management.  John has done presentations for Fortune 500 Companies on topics such as Project Management, Risk Management and Motivation. 

Dr. Byrne has written books and articles for the Project Management Institute’s Educational Foundation's K-12 Education Initiative and is on the Project Management Institute Educational Foundation's International Visioning Committee for K-12 Project Management Education.

DeVry University and Keller Graduate School

John is an Associate Professor at DeVry University and Senior Faculty at the Keller Graduate School of Management.  John instructs undergraduate and graduate students in management and project management. 

Here are some of John’s accomplishments at DeVry and Keller:

  • John was elected first president of the Pennsylvania Metro Chapter of Sigma Beta Delta International Honor Society for Business.
  • John was Designated Senior Faculty at the Keller Graduate School of Management.
  • John was the instructor for back-to-back National Project Management Capstone awards winners.  This is only the second time in Keller’s history that one instructor had back-to-back classes win this award.
  • He is the single Project Management instructor of choice for DeVry’s Becker Project Management Center for Corporate Education program in the Philadelphia area.  This program involves providing general and specific project management and PMP® preparatory classes to industries in the Delaware Valley.  He has taught more PMP® Preparatory courses than any other instructor in the Becker Project Management network in the last three years. 
  • He was selected to represent as part of the onsite team and as part of the application development group for DeVry University in its successful effort to gain GAC accreditation from the Project Management Institute (PMI).  This effort was successful without comment from PMI.  This effort involved assisting in writing the accreditation documents and participating in the on-site visit.

Military Service

John served ten years in the US Navy as a submarine nuclear reactor operator stationed on the USS Nathanael Greene (SSBN 636), the USS Boston (SSN 703), and as an nuclear reactor operator instructor at NTPU Balston Spa, New York.  John was qualified Engineering Duty Petty Officer, Engineering Watch Supervisor, and Submarines. 
Dr. Byrne was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal for professionalism along with Good Conduct Medal, Sea Service Ribbon, and Six Deterrent Patrol Pins.
